I was just doing a search, b/c I am REALLY trying to find out where this foolish "call to follow-up" myth came from! I couldn't agree more with your statements. It drives me INSANE when people call (badger) me about their applications!! I don't need a reminder or "push" to consider someone! If you are the best person, you will be contacted. End of story!

Thank you! All through college, advisers encouraged the follow-up call and it always made me cringe. I'm all about the follow-up email if I feel I actually established a rapport with the person, but a phone call just seems so needy. You're right on the money, in my opinion!

Jess’s last blog post..You probably won't want to put quarters in my personal juke box

Right on the money with this one. I personally have tossed applications into the trash bin for excessive voice-mails.

Love this post. Nothing is worse than the candidate whose messages get increasingly outraged that you haven't called them back. Oh wait, firms trying to sell you HR products (training, benefits consulting, temp agencies) who get outraged at no callback are worse.

Why thank you. I was pretty crabby when I wrote it. I probably should have had some ice cream first.
