But I know that a PE can help you get hired.  I look at certifications from a cost/benefit perspective...if it costs X to get it, and you can reasonably expect to earn that back during the life of the certification (or, more likely, have more income-earning opportunities during the life of the certification), then it&#039;s worth it.

Plus, for people who actually study, there&#039;s the inherent benefit of the learning.  That&#039;s good too, because it makes you better at your job, so you earn more.</description>

When I was an engineer, and decided to to pursue my PE, I was challenged by my professors who insisted that would hold merit if I were ever involved in a product design that had a court case associated with it. What, if I&#039;m a PE no one is going to find fault? I don&#039;t think so.
On the other hand, it is, as you noted, a designation that gives people faith in your depth of knowledge, or at least your committment to the field.
