Good news!! With all the idiots out there, those people who are decent at all and need a job should have very little difficulty finding one, despite the economy. The only hindrance should be the time it takes for HR people to wade through all the resumes from idiots to find the single one that’s stellar. (Needle in a haystack?)

I have many of the “people say stupid things” stories. Here is a very recent one. During a performance review an employee told the President of the company that he was going to have to step back and reassess his responsibilities and just wasn’t going to work as hard since he didn’t get the raise he wanted. The $20K raise he wanted. Umm, okay.

You would be stunned how many people are drunk or stoned at work. It’s really kind of sad, because if you need it that badly…well, that’s a sign that things have gone too far. I’ve seen a few people in the late stages of ruining their lives, and that’s never fun to watch.

Lots of drunk ones on that! A friend of mine from my old job told me that one of my former coworkers showed up drunk a couple of weeks ago. They sent her home. I doubt they'll fire her. Remember that English girl working in Paris who had a blog and got fired when they found her blog? She said that it was because of something innocuous — I can’t remember — but in the blog, she writes about how she lies about her daughter being sick and not being able to get a sitter when she was really meeting her lover for an afternoon tryst. I think that’s why she was really fired: she lied to get laid.
